The Machine to perform at the High Point Theatre

Times Correspondent Daniel Starling - “Welcome my son, welcome to the machine” sang former frontman Roger Waters in the timeless Pink Floyd classic of the same name. The High Point Theatre (HPT) will kick off its 2006-2007 paid-performance schedule with a concert by The Machine — a Pink Floyd tribute band — on Saturday, Nov. 18.
“I’m very happy about this being our first pay performance,” HPT Theatre Director Louisa Hart said. “The music of Pink Floyd is very popular. I’m surprised at how many different age groups — from teenagers to baby-boomers — enjoy their style of music.”
The Machine has been called “The World’s Greatest Pink Floyd Show” due to level of musicianship going into each show and their flair for capturing the spirit and feeling of Pink Floyd — a band regarded as pioneers of experimental rock for over 30 years.
Along with a music from a cross-section of Pink Floyd’s 16-album repertoire, The Machine’s shows are known for their state-of-the-art lighting and sound — resulting in strikingly faithful performances, right down to the impromptu psychedelic jams that became a staple of actual Pink Floyd performances.
“This is more of a musical experience than a concert,” Hart said. “The Machine are unique in that they are a 100-percent live music band. They do not use samples and sound tracks like other bands. With the state-of-the-art light show, it will be a multi-media experience.”
Fans can expect to hear many of their favorites from classic Pink Floyd albums such as The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon, and A Momentary Lapse of Reason among others.
“Fans will be treated to a large sampling of music from Pink Floyd’s entire music library,” Hart said.
Beginning its career in Nyack, N.Y., The Machine started their musical careers performing a diverse range of rock music — including many classic Pink Floyd songs. Over time, fans demanded more of the Pink Floyd covers — enhancing the band’s reputation as the premier Pink Floyd tribute band.
The band — consisting of Scott Chasolen, Ryan Ball, Todd Cohen and Joe Pascarell — has been featured in The Amazing Pudding, a Pink Floyd monthly published in England, and the German music magazine, P.U.L.S.E.
“It’s been very rewarding for us to travel all over the country and internationally having the honor to present the musical experience of Pink Floyd to newer fans who never had the option of seeing Pink Floyd in concert,” drummer Todd Cohen said. “It is a complete thrill to hear a fan tell me ‘My soul was filled with the magic of the music you made.’ This is timeless music that we’re excited to continue sharing worldwide.”
The Machine has also been profiles in several U.S. publications including: The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Philadelphia Inquirer and GIG Magazine.
The Machine has shared the stage with a veritable who’s-who of rock music — having performed with The Guess Who, Jefferson Starship, Steppenwolf and Eddie Money.
Throughout the season, the High Point Theatre will offer a variety of live performances, featuring everything from the psychedelic to classical music. Other upcoming shows include:
• Amadeus: Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada — Saturday, April 21, 2007 - 8 p.m.
