- The Thomasville Jaycees kicked off their annual Empty Stocking Fund drive on Nov. 19 at West Side Grill.
Ann Goad has allowed the Jaycees to use her restaurant for the event kickoff, and has always been supportive of the Jaycees’ project.
This year’s goal is $7,500.
“The economic situation in Thomasville is not good, to say the least,” Empty Stocking Fund chairman Brian Holland said. “As with other civic organizations, our chapter remains optimistic that we can at least equal what we did last year.”
Last year, the Jaycees were able to assist 45 families — which included more than 140 children. Those names are given to the Jaycees through the Salvation Army of Davidson County and other local organizations.
All money collected goes directly to the Empty Stocking Fund and is used to supply a food box for Christmas dinner, clothing, at least one toy and a “goody” stocking.
Holland called the drive “the most exciting project we do all year.”
“It’s such a joy to imagine these kids’ faces on Christmas morning,” he said. “And the heartfelt thank yous we receive from their families make it more special.”
