- This year, the grand marshall at Saturday’s Thomasville Christmas parade won’t be a single person.
It will be an entire organization.
The High Point/Thom-asville chapter of the American Red Cross will be honored as this year’s grand marshall.
The local chapter has had 29 deployments to the Gulf Coast region in response to Hurricane Katrina’s destruction. This year, the Red Cross is being honored as grand marshall to show respect and gratitude from the Thom-asville Jaycees for all they do.
Also, two current Red Cross volunteers who spent some time in the Gulf region will be honored. They are Leon Wessell, who spent six weeks there, and Erika Sanders, who is currently in that area.
This year’s Christmas parade is set for Saturday at 3 p.m. on Main Street.
More than 140 entries are in the parade, and seven professional floats sponsored by local businesses.
In the parade this year will be a variety of clubs and organizations, cheerleaders, dancers, representatives from local police and fire departments as well as the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, various city council members and county commissioners, football teams, Cub and Girl Scouts, animals, Hi-Toms players and more.
Parade entries will be judged this year in the following categories: most humorous, best overall, best dance, best religious group, most spirited, and most creative.
