HIGH POINT – James C. “Big’un” Baker, 68, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at 1600 Kivett Drive.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Central United Methodist Church in Thomasville. The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church and other times at the home of the sister, June Baker Billie, 502 Cox Ave. in Thomasville. A public viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at S. E. Thomas Funeral Service in Thomasville.

Ethel Leonard Gammons
Ethel Leonard Gammons, 90, of Britthaven of Davidson Nursing Center in Thomasville, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, in the Hospice Home at High Point.
Gammons was born March 4, 1919, in Davidson County, a daughter of the late Ira Leonard and Mabel Clara Hayworth Leonard. She was a retired employee with Kayby Mills, following 30 years of service, and prior to her death was the oldest member of Fairmont Park Baptist Church in High Point.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday in Fairmont Park Baptist Church in High Point with the Revs. Wayne Richardson and Dr. Steven D. Jones officiating. Burial followed in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

Darrell Holt
Darrell Thomas Holt, 67, of Myers Drive in Thomasville, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Select Specialty Medical Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Holt was born March 24, 1942, in Guilford County, a son of Thomas William Holt and Edith Pendry Holt. He was retired, having worked in the insurance business with Western Southern, and he was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at J.C. Green and Sons Chapel. Interment will follow in the Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

LEXINGTON — Helen Shaw Kivett, 85, of East Center Street Extension in Lexington, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Kivett was born Sep. 20, 1923, in Davidson County, to Willie Edgar Shaw and Tessie Shandwick Shaw. She was a retired employee of Lexington Telephone Company.
Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Frankie Matthews officiating. Burial followed in Forest Hill Memorial Park.

WINSTON-SALEM — Joy Vern Murphy Leonard, 54, of 1662 Norman Shoaf Road Lot No. 3, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at her residence.
Leonard was born Aug. 11, 1954, in Davidson County, daughter of the late Francis Woodrow Murphy and Vada Smith Murphy. She was a homemaker and a member of Midway School Road Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in J. C. Green & Sons Chapel in Thomasville, with the Rev. Robert Walker officiating. The family will be at the home of the son, Matthew Darrell Leonard, 123 Bell Drive in Thomasville.

Jennifer Martell
SALISBURY — Jennifer Rickard Martell, 48, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville.
She was born July 17, 1960, in Onslow County, to Buck Rickard and June Venable Rickard. She was a graduate of East Davidson High School and attended North Carolina State University. She was a lifelong Wolfpack fan. She worked at Belk Department Store and Chambers & Price Realty in High Point. She was preceded in death by her father.
On Nov. 7, 1987, she married Frank Martell, who survives of the home; also surviving is her mother, June Venable Rickard, of Thomasville; a brother, Van Rickard and wife Pam, of Monroe Township, N.J.; a sister, Teresa Ritter and husband Kelly, of Durham; a great aunt, Louise Jordan, of Bear Creek; and a cousin, Joel Jordan and wife Deb, of Knightdale.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Jordan officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville from 6-8 p.m. today.

Rickey Wayne “Rick” Sebastian
Rickey Wayne “Rick” Sebastian, 51, of Windy Hill Lane, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, May 16, 2009.
He was born Oct. 25, 1957, in Davidson County, to Arthur Roy “Dickey” Sebastian and Phyllis Ann Wood Sebastian. Rick was a graduate of Thomasville High School in 1976 and played baseball in high school. Rick was a project manager with First Restoration Service and was a contractor for a number of years. He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church on Highway 8 in Lexington, where he was a youth Sunday school teacher. He loved singing, fishing, racing and going to the lake. Rick was married to Kathy Renee Gordon.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy G. Sebastian, of the home; his mother and father, Phyllis and Dickey Sebastian, of Thomasville; one daughter, Katelyn Hope Sebastian; one son, Matthew “Cord” Sebastian and wife Miranda Leigh; one grandson, Jackson “Cole” Sebastian; two sisters, Gayle S. Hulin and husband Tony and Teresa S. Ward and husband Danny, both of Thomasville; several nieces and nephews; and his two very special pet friends, Lacy and Jake.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the J. C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., from 7-9 p.m. today and other times at the home. Pallbearers will be Grover Beck, Randy Ballard, Patrick Young, Keith Mabe, Brian Hulin, Jamie Jackson, Gene Anderson and Scotty Mabe. Honorary Pallbearers will be Todd York, Clint Mabe, Jason Key, Buster Smith, Rodney Duke and Melvin Myers.

Stanford was born Oct. 29, 1992, in Davidson County, to Jerry Stanford and Saprina Edwards Brinkley. He was a sophomore student at Central Davidson High School, where he was a member and captain of the ROTC and a member of the Central Track Team.

DENTON — Mina Brown Swicegood, 90, of Mt. Vista Health Park, formerly of the Erlanger Community in Lexington, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, after a brief illness.

Essick was born June 6, 1941, in Carteret County, N.J., to Samuel McCoy Wood and Jessie Shaw Wood. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Nancy Black
Nancy Jane Craver Black, 79, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born Sep. 11, 1929, in Davidson County, to C.R. Craver and Clara Everhart Craver. She was a homemaker and a member of Fair Grove United Methodist Church, where she was a member of The Belle Bennett Circle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall “M.A.” Black Jr., on Jan. 21, 1982, sisters, Helen Harrington and Mamie Myers, and a son-in-law, Nick Nicholson.
Surviving is a daughter, Toni Nicholson, of Thomasville; a son, Mark A. Black and wife Judy, of Thomasville; a brother, Eric Ken Craver, of Trinity; sisters, Elsie Hill, of Thomasville, Alice Miller, of Trinity, Francis Moore, of Lexington, Louise Watford, of Thomasville, and Joanne Bodenheimer, of Winston-Salem; a grandson, Kevin Brian Nicholson; and her special canine companions, Zena and J.D.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Fair Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Elise Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. Black will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the visitation.

Jane Elizabeth Morphis, 70, of 146 Summers Trail, passed away Friday, May 8, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center.
Moprhis was born June 25, 1938, in West Virginia, to Chester Arnold and Colleen Rexroad Arnold. She was a retired office manager for Genco Supply and was of the Baptist faith.
