THOMASVILLE — Harley Ray Adkins, infant son of Alex Ray Adkins and Brandie Rae Alford of 325 Woodlawn St., died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Thomasville Medical Center. Services will be private for the family. Allie Alford THOMASVILLE — Allie McDowell Alford, 83, of Thomasville, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Hospice Home of the Piedmont. She was born on Aug. 1, 1924, the daughter of William “Ed” and Bertie McDowell, who preceded her in death. She was retired from Parkdale Mills and was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Family Funeral Care Chapel with the Rev. Ron Blakely officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service. Box 1042, Thomasville, N.C. 27360. Barbara Elizabeth Cain HIGH POINT — Barbara Elizabeth Cain, 44, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital. She was born on Dec. 26, 1963, in Lexington, to Nancy Fowler Cain of the home and the late Robert Joseph Cain. She was a beautician and of the Baptist faith. Ms. Cain will be remembered as a loving mother, daughter and sister. In addition to her mother, Ms. Cain is survived by two children, April Cain Knight and husband, Steven, of High Point and Tess Leigh Jones and her father, Harlan, of Thomasville; four sisters, Tina Kemp of Sophia, Cynthia Cain Hall and husband, Lindy, of Trinity, Becky Davis and husband, Terry, of Thomasville and Debbie Caine Edwards and husband, Floyd, of Trinity; fiancee, Daniel Atkinson of Asheboro; four nephews; and three nieces. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday at Faith Baptist Church with interment following in the church cemetery. Arrangements by Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. *** Bill Davis LEXINGTON — Billy James Davis, 65, of East Old Highway 64, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital after a sudden illness. Mr. Davis was born on March 4, 1943, in Davidson County, to Roy Shelton Davis and Emma Grubb Davis. He was a graduate of Denton High School and attended East Carolina University. He worked for two years at Moses Cone and then 25 years at Medical College of Virginia as a Registered Technologist in X-Ray Technology. After retirement, he returned to Lexington to work at Winn-Dixie and Bi-Lo. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home by the Rev. Tommy Wilson. Odelene Hedrick THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Odelene Elizabeth Byerly Hedrick, 84, a resident of Ball Park Road in Thomasville, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Britthaven of Davidson. Mrs. Hedrick was born on Nov. 7, 1923, in Davidson County, a daughter to the late Luther Byerly and Fleeta Stone Byerly, lived most of her life in the High Point/Thomasville area. She had worked for Myrtle Desk Company in High Point, was a member of Pine Woods United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women. Mrs. Hedrick was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Keith Byerly and Bruce Byerly; and sisters, Ruby Edwards, Bernice Farabee and Essise Eddinger. On Dec. 7, 1946, she married Billy R. Hedrick who survives of the home. Surviving in addition to her husband is her daughter, Linda Hedrick Miller and her husband, Keith, of Trinity; grandchildren, Lisa Miller Sexton and her husband, Jeff, of Archdale, Leslie Miller Thornbury and her husband, Neil, of Glasgow, Ky. and Jessica Elizabeth Miller of Trinity; great-grandchildren, Emily Sexton, Reece Thornbury and Walker Thornbury; and a sister, Amy Rothrock of Lexington. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Pastor Keith Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Woods United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Hogan was born on Feb. 4, 1919, in Randolph County to James P. and Della Davis Stafford. She was a graduate of Farmer School, a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and was retired from Stedman/Sara Lee in Asheboro. Funeral service will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Conley and the Rev. J. Harold Hammon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home in the New Hope community. Richard Ray McLendon THOMASVILLE — Mr. Richard Ray McLendon, 75, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Davidson County on March 6, 1933, to Nellie Britt Lanier. Mr. McLendon was a member of Forsyth Park Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He played minor league baseball with the Thomasville High Toms. He was an avid gardener, fisherman and sports enthusiast. Mr. McLendon was preceded in death by his mother and a step-father, Lloyd Lanier. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Neal McLendon of the home; two daughters, Sherry McLendon of Florida and Vickie Setzer and her husband, Darell, of the home; two grand-daughters, Michelle and Joy Setzer; and a cousin, Janet Myers. Viewing will be available prior to the service. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. John Krivsky and the Rev. Tom Southern officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Midway School Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Walker and the Rev. Albert Craven officiating.
