- Bobby Almond
Bobby Almond, 70, beloved husband, daddy and papaw, passed from his earthly home to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, March 13, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center following a brief illness.
Bobby was born on June 4, 1938, in Murphy. At a very young age, he was placed at Baptist Children’s Home in Thomasville, where he lived until graduation. Bobby had fond memories of his years at Mills Home and the many lifelong friendships he made while there. Bobby graduated from Thomasville High School in 1957. Throughout his high school years, he was active in sports, playing basketball, football, and baseball and winning many conference honors. Bobby served in the North Carolina National Guard. He worked at Duke Power for 32 years, retiring in 1994. He was one of the original board members of the Pilot Fire Department. Through the years, he coached many winning teams in Little League Baseball. He loved camping, hunting, fishing at Davis Island and spending time with his family.
He married Betty Darr, of Thomasville, who still resides at their home, on Aug. 29, 1958. Bobby and Betty celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 29, 2008. Bobby also is survived by a daughter, Angela Norris and husband Randy, of Thomasville. He has four precious grandchildren, Logan, David, Rachel and Landon Norris, whom he loved dearly, and a nephew, Donald Jordan and wife Beth, of Pfafftown. The family would like to thank the medical staff at Thomasville Medical Center, High Point Regional Hospital and WFUBMC for their care and concern during Bobby’s illnesses.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Fairview United Methodist Church on Old Greensboro Road in Thomasville, where he was a member, with the Revs. Lisa Wishon and Michael Ferguson officiating. Interment with full military rites provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery. Bobby will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

Grady O. Garren
LEXINGTON — Grady Olander Garren, 76, of Meadow Creek Drive, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Lexington Health Care.
Grady was born Feb. 14, 1933, in Mecklenburg County, to Frank Garren and Alice Hyatt Garren. He was retired from Proctor & Schwartz after 20 years of employment, and he was a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service to his country, having served in the Korean War.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Wayne Knight officiating. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. Friday at Salisbury National Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home, and the family will gather at the fellowship hall of First Pentecostal Holiness Church following the burial.

Nola S. Hoover
Mrs. Nola Stokes Hoover of East Street died Saturday, March 14, 2009, in High Point Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Hoover was born to the late Rev. J. W. Stokes and Jessie Mills Stokes. She graduated from Dunbar High School in Lexington and La Mae Beauty College in Winston-Salem, N.C. She was the owner and operator of East Street Beauty Nook. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church where she was a former Lay Speaker, a member of The United Methodist Women and a former chairperson of Circle No. 1. She was also a Communion Steward and a member of the Older Adult Ministries. She was past president of The East End Community Prayer Band. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Left to cherish her memories are two loving daughters Frances Tuttle (Russell) of High Point, NC and Jessie Leak (James) of High Point, NC; one sister Evangelist Mattie Thomas (Willie) of High Point, NC; four grandchildren Russell, II (Yolanda), Mosonica, Turisa, and James II; three great grandchildren Avery, Trevon, and Jaden.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 19 at 2 p.m. in Central United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the church 30 minutes before the funeral service and other times at the home of her daughters.

James W. Humphries Jr.
Mr. James William Humphries Jr. “Scooter Bump”, 52, died Thursday, March 11, 2009, in Libertywood Nursing Home.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. in New Grace Baptist Church on Blair Street. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the church 30 minutes before the funeral service and other times at the home of his sister Linda Stukes, 110 June Street, Thomasville.

Albert Jonah Ingram Sr.
LEXINGTON — Albert Jonah Ingram Sr., 72, of Cap Ingram Road, died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at his residence following a sudden illness.
Ingram was born June 1, 1936, in Davidson County, to William Corbet Ingram and Mary Ellen Franks Ingram. He worked as a Lead Router for Lexington Furniture Industries.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Floyd Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Dickens officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the residence on Cap Ingram Road. Arrangements are by Briggs Funeral Home in Denton.

Dale Jarrett
Claude Dale Jarrett, 91, a resident of Maplewood Avenue, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Britthaven of Davidson.
He was born Jan. 23, 1918, in Davidson County, to Emanuel James Jarrett and Claudie Fouts Jarrett. He retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries and was an active member of Fair Grove United Methodist Church, where he served in numerous capacities. He won the City of Thomasville Men’s Tennis Championship several times and was an avid golfer and had a love of gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Tina Elizabeth Hamilton Jarrett, in 1995; and brothers, Emanuel Jarrett Jr., Donald Jarrett, Lawrence Jarrett, Chester Jarrett and the Rev. Wilbur Jarrett.
Surviving are his daughter, Janice Griffin and husband Richard, of Thomasville; and a granddaughter, Amy Pierce, of Thomasville.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Fair Grove United Methodist Church with the Revs. Elise Kennedy and Julius Lambeth officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m. Tuesday at the church Family Life Center. Jarrett will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until taken to the church at the hour of the visitation.
