THOMASVILLE — James Eugene “Gene” Elbertson, 71, of Yuma, Ariz. and a former resident of Thomasville, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2007. He was born to Tillet David and Lena Briles Elbertson on May 3, 1936 in Randolph County. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Howard David Elbertson. Surviving are his daughter, Fonda Stewart of Thomasville; two sisters, Lois E. Ashley and husband, Vincent, of Thomasville and Mattie E. Yates and husband, Allen, of Lexington; one brother, Clayton Elbertson of Thomasville; one granddaughter, Sara Stewart; two grandsons, Richard Nicholas Stewart and Trey Benfield; and two nieces and five nephews. Funeral service and burial was held in Yuma, Ariz. *** Lori Hopper THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Lori Ann Strickland Hopper, 38, formerly of Fifth Avenue, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at her home. She was born in Thomasville on Dec. 11, 1969, to Gene F. and Rose Anne Spencer Strickland. She was of the Baptist faith and worked as a home remodeler. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Funeral service will be on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Hochmuth officiating. Robert “Bob” Hosler THOMASVILLE — Mr. Robert “Bob” Hosler, 78, died Friday, March 28, 2008, at his home. He was born on Feb. 9, 1930 in Pontiac, Mich. to Burdette Hosler and Beulah Johnson Hosler. He was a retiree of the Thomasville Post Office and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was also a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. On June 14, 1953, he married Betty Leach, who survives of the home; also surviving are sons, Steve Hosler and his wife, Janet, of St. Charles, Ill. and Danny Hosler and his wife, Tammy, of Denton; daughter, Janie Banks and her husband, Sam, of Asheville; sister, Ann Erickson of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and six grandchildren. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with the Rev. Peggy Finch officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at the home. Online condolences may be made at www.jcgreenandsons.com. *** Katherine Peters HIGH POINT — Katherine Ward Spencer Peters, beloved wife and mother, 90, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital. She was born on Aug. 27, 1917 in Davidson County to the late O.L. and Margaret L. Ward. She attended Meredith College and graduated from High Point College and High Point School of Nursing, in addition to completing other graduate studies. She gave 50 years working for and loving High Point Regional Hospital as a nurse, educator and administrator. Following her retirement, she taught nursing students at Davidson County Community College. She was formerly a member of First Presbyterian Church in Thomasville, where she was an ordained Elder, teacher and Life Member of the Women of the Church. In later years she joined Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with her husband William R. Peters. She was a member of High Point Nursing School Alumnae, where she served as president and held numerous offices. She was also a member of the N.C. Governor’s Human Relations Commission for 11 years, where she served as chairman and was appointed to the N.C. Governor’s Commission for the Handicapped. In addition, she was a founding member of the Guild of High Point Regional Hospital, where she served as president, and held numerous other offices, and was involved in many other community services. On April 7, 1942, in Denton, she married H. Charles Spencer of Rutland, Vt., who died July 21, 1986. Two children were born to this union, Margaret Spencer Lang and H. Charles Spencer V. On June 20, 1992, she married William R. Peters, who died Sep. 13, 1998. Surviving are sons, H. Charles Spencer V and his wife, Malinda, Franklin E. Peters and his wife, Linda, and William T. Peters and his wife, Anne-Marie; grandchildren, Katherine Lang Barbour and husband, Michael, Jeannette Lang Young and husband, William, and Jill Peters Mitchell and husband, Joe; great-grandchildren, Evan, Anna Grey and Spencer Barbour, Margaret Evelyn and Lillie Jeanne Young, and Hannah Mitchell; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Ward and Katherine Ward; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Spencer Lang, and brothers, the Honorable Hiram H. Ward and Leslie Ward. Memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Bishop Thomas Stockton and the Rev. Dr. Richard Howle officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Asbury Room. Memorials may be directed to The Charles & Margaret Spencer Scholarship Fund c/o DCCC, P.O.
