DENTON —Barry Moody Baum, 52, died Friday, April 4, 2008, in Thomasville Medical Center after a short illness. Mr. Baum was born on July 11, 1955 in Randolph County, the son of Garland and Marie Hunt Baum. He worked for Council Craftsman Furniture for many years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Baum is survived by his wife, Joy Shaw Baum, of the home; a daughter, Amanda Baume, of the home; and two brothers, Michael Baum and wife, Kathy, of Denton and Kelly Baum of Lexington. Funeral service was held Sunday, April 6 at 3 p.m. at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Vern Peterson officiating. Burial followed at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. She was born on Dec. 14, 1921 in Taswell County, Va. to Levi Thomas and Mary Louise Powers Pruitt. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Bird; her son, Earl Knight; her brother, James Henry Pruitt; and her sisters Goldie Crawford and Ida Belle Hutchinson. Lisa Cranford THOMASVILLE —Lisa Ann Cranford, 45, a resident of 980 Tower Road, died Friday, April 4, 2008, in Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on Nov. 10, 1962 in Thomasville, a daughter of Dewey Welborn Jr. and Thelma Toney Welborn. She was a resident of Thomasville all of her life and was a member of Reavis Memorial Baptist Church in High Point. She was preceded in death by her father. Surviving are her son, Christopher Lee Cranford of the home; her mother, Thelma T. Gobble and step father, William “Pete” Gobble, of the home; a sister, Sharon K. He was born on Feb. 21, 1940 to Edgar Paschal and Beatrice Elizabeth Wright Evans. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a truck driver for Martin Motor Lines. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Evans. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Gladys Jarrett Evans; two daughters, Donna Evans and Debbie Nicholson, both of Greensboro; a son, Edgar P. “Jane” Evans of Thomasville; four step-children, Sharon Baker and Lynne Andrews, both of California, Penny Griffin of Pfafftown and Joy Cecil of Stanleyville; a sister, Edna Ruth “Billy” Moorefield of Greensboro; four grandchildren, Jehnna, Chris, Jocelyn and Sydney; seven step-grandchildren; and a former wife, Janie Coe. Lela Johnson MOORESVILLE — Lela Morrow Johnson, 92, of 872 Shearer Road in Mooresville, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Summit Place. She was born in Iredell County on July 16, 1915, a daughter of the late Bruce and Ida Cohen Morrow. She was retired from Burlington Mills. Her husband, Cecil Johnson, died on Feb. 13, 2007. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Scoppa and husband, Peter, of Fayetteville, Ark. and Gay Wyche of Thomasville, and two grandsons, Jason and David Scoppa. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband, Burl Clifford Coggins, on May 19, 1975 and two brothers, Basil and Bernard Bodenheimer. Surviving are her husband, Earl Johnson, of Thomasville; two sons, Nolan Coggins and his wife, Pat, of Conover, N.C. and Michael Coggins and his wife, Peggy, of Thomasville; brother, Jerry Bodenheimer of Winston-Salem; sister, Mabel McKinnon of Thomasville; two grandchildren, Matt Coggins of Thomasville and Kelli Coggins of Atlanta, Ga.; and four great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife and beloved mother, as well as a talented artist who loved to paint, sew, quilt and create beautiful crafts. William “Bill” Owen CHARLOTTE — Mr. William Marion “Bill” Owen, 72, a resident of Charlotte, N.C., died Friday, April 4, 2008, at his home. Mr. Owen was born on July 11, 1935 in Cumberland County, a son to Walter Marion Owen and Lucille Bulla Owen. Bill was the owner of Ace Insurance, Inc. in Charlote, had served in the U.S. Marines and was of the Presbyterian faith. Mr. Owen was a mason and an insurance agent of North Carolina. He loved gardening and working in his yard and was an excellent cook. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William Michael Owen; and four special friends, John D. Warren and Johnny McClelland of Charlotte, N.C. and Garland and Mary Goodwin of Raleigh, N.C. Bill was married to Peggy Darr Owen, who survives of the home. Surviving, in addition to Peggy, are his five precious little pets, Fifi, Beaux, Jacque, KOKO and his little shadow, Tinker; a son, Scott Holloway and his wife, Paige, of Waxhaw, N.C.; a step-son, Benji Link of Thomasville; a step-daughter, Tammy McDowell and her husband, Randy, of Thomasville; grandchildren, Max Owen and Dana Owen, both of Charlotte and Jordan Holloway and Jami Holloway, both of Waxhaw; step-grandchildren, Ashley Pattison and her husband, Ben, of Raleigh and Kelsey McDowell of Thomasville; sisters, Jerry Bertschi and her husband, Clinton, of Ocean Isle, N.C. and Inez Hatcher and her husband, Joe Mack, of Fayetteville, N.C.; special friends, Ried and Dot Cook, Rowena Warren, Michael Houston, Lila McClelland; and his faithfull secretary, Deborah Phelps and her husband, Buddy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Per Mr. Owen’s request, he will be cremated and a private memorial service for his family will be at a later date. Frank Yarbrough, 89, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a friend forever to all that met him, died Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Wake Forest University Medical Center after six years of declining health. Mr. Yarbrough was born in Davidson County on Feb. 12, 1919 to Noah Aaron Yarbrough and Mary Elizabeth Shoaf Yarbrough. He was the owner and operator of Frank’s Used Cars, Donut-Dinette, Pure Gas Station, Spur Gas Station and a partner of Flowers Used Cars. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel with the Rev. Clyde Akers and Dr. Robert Floyd officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
