LEXINGTON Margie Stonestreet Bailey, 85, formerly of Enterprise Road in Lexington, died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Silas Creek Manor in Winston-Salem. Ms. Bailey was born March 21, 1923, in Forsyth County to Clifton Shuford Stonestreet Sr. and Pearl Ruth Ball Stonestreet. She was retired from PPG Industries after 20 years of service. Ms. Bailey was preceded in death by a brother, Clifton Shuford Stonestreet Jr., and a sister, Maggie Louise Scott. Surviving is a sister, Earline Perryman, of Southport, N.C. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with the Rev. Ray Surratt officiating. Burial will follow in the Lexington City Cemetery. Eller Jr. WINSTON-SALEM Mr. Thomas Erastus Eller Jr., 84, died Monday, March 24, 2008, in Landmark Estates following a lengthy illness. Mr. Eller was born in Forsyth County to the late Thomas Eller Sr. and Ollie Brindle Eller. Funeral service will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at S.E. Thomas Funeral Home in Thomasville. The family will receive friends at the funeral. Wesley Ray Hiatt PALM SPRING, CALIF. Mr. Wesley Ray Hiatt, 94, formerly of Chocowinity, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, Calif. Mr. Hiatt had been a resident of Palm Springs since February of 2007. Mr. Hiatt was born in Surry County, N.C. on April 15, 1913 to the late William Benton and Laura Hartie Lawrence Hiatt. Mr. Hiatt was a retired farmer and employee of Southern Furniture Market in High Point. He was a former member of Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and a current member of Palm Springs Baptist Church in California. On Oct. 9, 1943, he was married to Lillian Lorene Edwards, who preceded him in death on Oct. 8, 1994. Surviving are a daughter, Judith Hiatt Henson of New Tazell, Tenn.; a son, Gary Edwards Hiatt of San Francisco and Palm Springs, Calif.; two sisters, Alice Caudle of High Point and Effie Griffith of Ohio; two brothers, Dillard Hiatt of Greensboro and Garfield Hiatt of Florida; two grandchildren, Angie Henson Newland of Nashville, Tenn. and Ashley Henson Simerl of Jefferson City, Tenn.; and one great-grandson, Caleb Thomas Simerl. Mr. Hiatt was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Henry Horne. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Peachtree Baptist Church Cemetery in Spring Hope, N.C. Snody Carrow, Rusty Carrow, Donnie Edwards, Mason Proctor, Kenny Edwards and Jack Edwards will serve as pallbearers. Mr. Isaac Edwards will serve as an honorary pallbearer. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Center Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will see friends at the residence of the sister, Mrs. Alma Grubb, on Sower Road in Linwood. Piedmont Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Alexander Lopp THOMASVILLE Douglas Alexander Lopp, 86, died Friday, March 21, 2008, at Britthaven of Davidson. He was born on Jan. 30, 1922 in Davidson County to Henry Ervin and Annie Beck Lopp. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in two major battle zones. His units captured Nurenburg, Schweinfort, Munich and Warsburg on the outskirts of Salzburg. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars and World War II Victory Medal. Awards include Honorable Service Lapel Button for World War II, the Sharp Shooter Badge and Carbine Bar. He was honorably discharged in Feb. 1946 at the rank of T-sergeant. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Thomasville, where he taught Sunday School for 57 years before retiring. He retired after 35 years from W.F. Mickey Body Company, Inc. as manager of the Truck Equipment Division. He was also a longtime member of the Thomasville Civitan Club. He served on Thomasville City Council for three terms (12 years) and was appointed by Governor Martin for two five-year terms (10 years) on the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors. He was preceded in death by his parents and his children, Richard and Dawn Lopp. Surviving are his beloved wife, Clarice Davis Lopp; grandchildren, Lori Larrabee and husband, Bob, of Wake Forest, N.C., Kim Mangum and husband, David, of Durham, Lisa Lopp and Trevor Sim of High Point, Doug Clodfelter of Knights Dale, and by adopted son Terry Solomon and wife, Martha, of Thomasville; great-grandchildren, Erin Mangum, Haley Mangum, Ryaan Larrabee, Davis Larrabee and Reagan Larrabee. Memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Thomasville on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Bynum Orr and the Rev. Stewart White officiating. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 8 Kramer St., Thomasville, N.C. 27360 or Thomasville Civitan Club in care of Jackie Welch, 615 Longview Drive, Thomasville, N.C. 27360. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Frankie L. McLean officiating and Elder Marshall A. McCoy eulogizing.
