THOMASVILLE —Mr. James Boyd, 72, of 4 College St., died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Thomasville Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Zion Tabernacle F.B.H. Church. Burial will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery in High Point. The family will receive friends on Friday at the church 30 minutes before the funeral service and other times at the home.

Mary Wyatt Branson
LEXINGTON —Mary Louise “Patsy” Branson, 63, of Branson Drive, died Monday, April 7, 2008, in Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mrs. Branson was born on Jan. 26, 1945 in Smyth County, Va. to Ira Bane Wyatt and Maude Evans Wyatt. She was a former manager of a convenience store and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving are her husband, Tommy Madison Branson of the home; a son, David Lee Branson and wife, Kimberly, of Lexington; a daughter, Martha Branson Haynes and husband, Doug, of Thomasville; five grandchildren, Tiffany Michael, Joshua Curry, D.J. Haynes all of Thomasville, and Alex Branson and Anna Branson of Lexington; two great-grandchildren, Madison Louise Bussard and Nathaniel Christon Blackburn of Thomasville; brothers, William Wyatt and wife, Mary, Joe Wyatt and wife, Martha, Jerry Wyatt and wife, Donna, Jim Wyatt and wife, Debbie, Richard Wyatt and Larry Wyatt and wife, Holly, all of Virginia; sisters, Anne West and husband, Kenny, Susie Armstrong and husband, Gary, and Janie Gillispie, all of Virginia.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with preacher Clyde Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home on 270 Branson Drive in Thomasville.

Finley Carlton
LEXINGTON — W. Finley Carlton, 87, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, in Forsyth Medical Center.
Finley was born in Davidson County on Aug. 23, 1920 to John Franklin Carlton and Jessie Hawkins Carlton. He was a married to Anne Swicegood Carlton for 67 years. He was the owner of W. Finley Carlton and Associates and a veteran of the U.S. Army 63rd Division during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anne, who died April 7, 2008; and a brother, R. Lewis Carlton.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frankie Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Visitation for Finley and Anne will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Dorothy Newson Carrick
DENTON — Dorothy “Dot” Newson Carrick 82, of Newson Lane, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton.
Mrs. Carrick was born on March 24, 1926 in Davidson County to Everette Lonnie and Glay Owens Newsom. She was an active member of Summerville Baptist Church and was a member of Healing Springs Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She had worked at Surratt Hosiery and retired from Burlington Industries. Mrs. Carrick was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Newson and sisters, Essie Mae Parker, Nellie Daniels and Josephine Woodle.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Summerville Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom McLean, the Rev. Mike Motley and the Rev. James Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and at other times at the home on Newson Lane.

Glen “Fergie” Ferguson
LEXINGTON — Mr. Glen Ray “Fergie” Ferguson, 73, a resident of 11954 E. Old Highway 64, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 2, 1934 in Randolph County to Theodore Glen Ferguson and Mae Ila Holder Ferguson. He was retired from Henredon Furniture and was of the Baptist faith. In addition, he was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Graveside service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Salisbury National Cemetery with Pastor Billy Yates officiating. The family will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville today from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the home.

Mildred Hedrick
LEXINGTON — Mildred Virginia Briggs Hedrick, 89, formerly of South County Home Road, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Centerclair Nursing Center.
Mrs. Hedrick was born on Dec. 30, 1918 in Anson County to William Ervin Briggs and Maude Adelia Hedrick Briggs. She was a member of United Methodist Women, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir of her church. She was retired from the Davidson County School System, having worked as a dietician at Stone Thomas School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, M.W. Hedrick; a son, Gary Brent Hedrick; two sisters, Ila Mae Sturdivant and Lois Leanard; and a son-in-law, Danny Grubb.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bethany United Methodist Church, where she was a member, by the Reverends Allan Van Meter and Carl Lindquist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at their respective homes.

Mozelle Johnson
THOMASVILLE —Mrs. Mozelle B. Johnson, 88, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Britthaven of Davidson.
She was born on Dec. 29, 1919 in Davidson County to the late John Bodenheimer and Mary Jeanette Chapel Bodenheimer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband, Burl Clifford Coggins, on May 19, 1975 and two brothers, Basil and Bernard Bodenheimer.
Surviving are her husband, Earl Johnson, of Thomasville; two sons, Nolan Coggins and his wife, Pat, of Conover, N.C. and Michael Coggins and his wife, Peggy, of Thomasville; brother, Jerry Bodenheimer of Winston-Salem; sister, Mabel McKinnon of Thomasville; two grandchildren, Matt Coggins of Thomasville and Kelli Coggins of Atlanta, Ga.; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben K. Shepherd and the Rev. Pete Bumgarner officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the home of her son, Michael Coggins.

Marie “Maw” Kindley
THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Marie “Maw” Varner Kindley, 73, of 134 Hancock Lane, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at her residence.
She was born on Dec. 25, 1934 in Davidson County, a daughter of the late Charles Varner and Tishie Hill Varner. She was a homemaker and a member of Hughes Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Kindley was married on June 14, 1954 to John Samuel Kindley, who preceded her in death on Sep. 30, 1990. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Barbara Jean Kindley and Sarah Mae Green.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Hughes Grove Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery. The family will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville today from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at the home.

Virginia Lawson
LEXINGTON — Virginia Roberts Lawson, 83, a resident of Lester Powell Road, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Lawson was born in Richmond County, N.C. on March 3, 1925 to the late Harry Roberts and Pearl Crissman Roberts. She was a retired employee of Stanley Furniture and of the Baptist faith. She served in the WACS during World War II. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step father, Strawdy Tilley; her husband, Sanders “Shorty” Lawson; a daughter, Carolyn L. Craig; a granddaughter, Kimberly Craig; and two brothers, Edgar Roberts and Calvin Tilley.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Edwards officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Piedmont Funeral Home and at other times at the home of the son, Charles Lawson, which is located at 910 Becky Hill Road in Lexington.

Nadia Lewis
THOMASVILLE ­ — Mrs. Nadia Elizabeth Rakes Lewis, 86, of 220 Carolina Avenue died Monday, April 7, 2008, in High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born on Sep. 17, 1921 in Morehead, Ky., a daughter of David Wales Rakes and Helen Sarah Lambert Rakes. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist Faith. Mrs. Lewis was married to George W. Lewis, who preceded her in death on July 15, 1996.
Funeral service will be held today at 4 p.m. in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel in Thomasville with Mr. David Howard officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.

James Swittenberg Jr.
THOMASVILLE — James Swittenberg Jr., 86, of Bowerwood Drive, died on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Hospice Home of High Point.
He was born in Newberry, S.C. to the late Ethel McMorris Swittenberg and James Swittenberg.
Mr. Swittenberg attended the public schools of Newberry County. He was founder of Swittenberg Painting Company for over 50 years. He painted Furniture companies Market Showrooms for many years, especially Thayer Coggins where he had painted for over 40 years. He served as a Board of Directors member for Thomasvile General Hospital 1974 to 1984. Mr. Swittenberg was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion #284. Mr. Swittenberg has also held other offices in the city and other organizations in the past. He is the founder of The James and Mable Education Foundation.
He was also a member of Brown New Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for over 50 years. He served as Sunday School Superintendent for over 30 years. Mr. Swittenberg served on the Senior Choir for many years and he was known for singing spiritual hymns and his deep voice. He was currently serving as treasurer for the Rising Star Baptist Association. His church work is too numerous to mention.
Mr. Swittenberg was preceded in death by his son, Arthur Lee Swittenberg; sister, Mrs. Plina Young; and brother, Erbin Swittenberg.
Surviving family members are his wife, Mable Miller Swittenberg; grandchildren, Mavis and Armina Swittenberg; two great-grandchildren, Damion James Swittenberg and Adoria Swittenberg of Thomasville; three sisters, Lillie Ford of Aiken, S.C., Veronica Jackson and husband, John, of Thomasville and Mattie Stevenson and husband, Steve; two brothers, Ulysses Swittenberg and sister, Mable, of Rockville Center, N.Y. and Julian Swittenberg and wife, Louise, of Washington, Md.; many neices and nephews; grandnieces and nephews; close cousin, Elizabeth Payne; and special godchildren, J.W. Mathis and wife, Wincy.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown New Calvary Baptist Church in Thomasville. Mr. Swittenberg will lie in state in the church sanctuary beginning at 5 p.m. Friday. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the James and Mable Education Foundation.

Frank Tussey
LEXINGTON — Frank Glen Tussey, 86, of Caitlan Lane, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at his home.
He was born on Dec. 5 1921 in Davidson County to Enoch Bud Tussey and Cora Sains Tussey. He was a veteran of World War II and a carpenter for R.J. Reynolds for 28 years prior to retirement. He was a member of Second United Church of Christ and American Legion Post 8.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum by Preacher Clyde Akers.
The family will receive friends at the home.
