Billy Eugene Abernathy Jr., 47, of Thomasville, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, in High Point Regional Hospital. Born Oct. 7, 1960, in Davidson County, he was a self-employed carpenter. Memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday in J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Madge Grimes Madge Curry Grimes, of Thomasville, died on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at The Brian Center Nursing Care in Lexington. Born in Davidson County, she was the daughter of Charles M. and Sarah Vestal Curry. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Holly Hill Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church, 115 Unity St., Thomasville, N.C. 27360. Family Funeral Care is entrusted with arrangements. Jo Alice Hodges Jo Alice Joyce Hodges, 78, of Thomasville died Thursday, Feb. 28. Mrs. Hodges was born on Christmas day, 1929 in Madison, NC to Charles Phillip Joyce and Blanche Alley Joyce, the first of four children. She was a graduate of Mayodan High School and was employed as a plant and payroll accountant at Washington Mills Company in Mayodan until her marriage to Thomas L. Hodges in 1953. Mrs. Hodges was a former member of Colonial Country Club, the Bent-Twig Garden Club and the Thomasville Woman’s Club. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Thomasville for 44 years, active with Sunday school classes and visiting shut-ins. She was awarded an Honorary Life membership in 2007, and Volunteer of the Year in 2005 by the women of the church. Mrs. Hodges was also a wonderful homemaker and a very loving wife, mother and grandmother. She especially enjoyed dancing, flower gardening and making beautiful handcrafts of many types, which she loved giving friends and the shut-ins that she visited. She will be remembered as a loving, thoughtful, and unselfish person by her family and friends. Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Patsy J. Bennett. After the early death of her father and as the oldest child, she decided to forego many of her personal ambitions to help keep her family together during the bleak depression years. Surviving are her husband of the home, one son, Thomas L. Hodges IV and wife Crystal, granddaughter, Addison B. Hodges, and grandson, Lawson H. Hodges, all of Thomasville. Other survivors include a sister Charldean J. Langdon of Warminster, Pa., a brother Steve A. Joyce and wife Nancy of Greensboro, eight nieces and two nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Michael Lamm officiating on Sunday, March 2 at 4:30 pm. The cremains will be interred in the church columbarium at the conclusion of the service. A special gathering of friends and family will be held in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service and other times at the at home of Tommy and Crystal Hodges. The family would like to thank the very dedicated staff of Britthaven Nursing Home, Thomasville Medical Center and many friends for their loving care and concern during our time of need. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, 21 Randolph Street, Thomasville, N.C. 27360 or to the charity of one’s choice. J.C. Funeral service will be held today at 1:30 p.m. in First Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends today at the church 30 minutes before the funeral service and other times at the home. S.E. Thomas Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements. |
