EDEN, N.C. — Mrs. Gaynell Lewallen Barnes, 77, of 744 Caleb St., passed away Monday afternoon, Feb. 11, 2008, at Morehead Memorial Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008 at Boone-Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel in Eden. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 in the Salisbury National Cemetery. Mrs. Barnes was born in High Point on July 13, 1930, a daughter of Lum Harrison and Florence Saunders Lewallen, both deceased. She was a furniture worker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luke Barnes; her sister, Martha Troxel and her brothers, Roy and James Lewallen. She is survived by her daughter, Anita Stutzenburg and husband Dennis of Eden; her son, Robert Lee Barnes of Florida; her sister, Edith Kelley of New Bern; her brothers, Billy Lewallen of Lexington, Bobby Lewallen of Thomasville and Arnold Lewallen of Mocksville; grandchildren, Robert Lee Hemric, Tanja Renae George; great-grandchildren, Erin Hemric and Ferrari George. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. Sunday at Boone-Reynolds Funeral Home immediately prior to the service. Born Nov. 18, 1919, in Davidson County, she was a retired employee of Burlington Industries. Marie Crews Marie Lucille Kirkman Crews, 85, of Piedmont Crossing and formerly of Georgia Avenue in Thomasvill, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at Piedmont Crossing. Born Dec. 22, 1922, in High Point, she worked with voter registration and the City of Thomasville tax listings. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael Lamm officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Maxine Crosley GREENSBORO — Maxine Stanley Crosely, 67, of Greensboro, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at Britthaven of Davidson. Born April 14, 1940, in Upshur County, Texas, she was a retired customer service representative for AST Computers in Fort Worth, Texas. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel, Fort Worth, Texas with the Rev. Bobby Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Betty Duncan WINSTON-SALEM — Betty Ruth Warner Duncan, 77, of 5220 Friendship-Ledford Road in Winston-Salem, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at her home. Born May 23, 1930, in Winston-Salem, she was a retired certified stock broker working with both Harris Upham and Wheat First Securities and she also worked for the practice of Dr. Edward Spudis. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Wallburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Cantrell and Dr. Brooks Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mary Gailey Mrs. Mary Wood Yates Gailey, 92, a former resident of Thomasville died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at her daughter’s home in Tega Cay, S.C. She was born on Dec. 24, 1915, in Davidson County to Wallace Wood and Viola Burton Wood. She was a lifelong member of Unity United Methodist Church, where she was the oldest member. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Yates and Homer Gailey, and two brothers, Pernell and Austin Wood. Surviving are her daughters, Betty Yates Loftin of Tega Cay, S.C. and Trena Yates McNabb of Bethania, N.C.; step-daughters, Pamila Harkey of Knoxville, Tenn. and Carroll Lewandawski of Maryville, Tenn.; brothers, Kenneth Wood of Burlington, Vaughn Wood of Siler City, and Wesley Wood of Thomasville; grandchildren, Dionne Shaw, Julie Davis, and Rob Joiner; step-grandchildren, Teresa Swanston, Angela Swanston, and Wayne Landrum; four great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Unity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donnie Durham officiating. Love Greer Amelia Pressley Love, 36, of 704 Burgin St. in Thomasville, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, in High Point Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Guildford County to Benjamin and Geraldine Spann Pressley, she was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. She was a 1990 graduate of Thomasville High School and she was employed by McDonald’s of Thomasville for 18 years. Surviving are her husband Keith Love of Thomasville, N.C.; her children Marcus Love, Jalesa Love and Cinamin Love all of the home; her parents Benjamin and Geraldine Love of Thomasville; one brother Benjamin D. Pressley of Thomasville; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the Church of Tomorrow, 906 Oaklawn Drive, Thomasville. Born Feb. 20, 1956, in Davidson County, he was a retired employee of PPG Industry, retiring after 25 years of service. Alpha Ray Murphy Sr. MIDWAY — Alpha Ray Murphy Sr., 90, of Bethany Church Road in Winston-Salem, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at The Homestead. Born April 29, 1917, in Davidson County, he was an avid farmer all his life and a supervisor with Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Service. He later retired from RJR Tobacco Company. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today in Bethany United Church of Christ with the Rev. Jay Whitley officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany United Church of Christ Cemetery. Leon Rollins Oldham Leon Rollins Oldham (Okie Dokie) of Thomasville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, while a resident of Brian Nursing Center of Lexington. Mr. Oldham was born to Murphy (Jake) Rollins Oldham and Edna Edison Oldham on April 7, 1933, in Statesville. He was married to Mary Reva Newby for 43 years. She preceded him in death on Feb. 14, 1998. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by both parents; three brothers: Tom, Ervin, and Jerry; and a sister: Shirley Nadine. Other family members preceding him in death were his son, Preston and twin great-granddaughters: Kiara and Marissa. Leon was a truck driver for 40 years working for various trucking companies in the area. He and his wife also ran Hasty Grocery for 15 years. He made his home at 1026 Kanoy Road before having to go into the nursing center. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter: Deanie and son-in-law James Maness; brothers: Jack Oldham and wife Corrine of Trinity, Arnold Oldham and wife Elaine of High Point, and William (Poley) Oldham of Raleigh; grandchildren: Bambi Anderson and husband Wesley, Timothy Maness and wife Holly, and Robert (Bob) Maness all of Thomasville; Angie Grubb and husband Jason of Lexington, and Chris Beasley and wife Sarah of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter-in-law: Judy Beasley of Thomasville; great-grandchildren: Darren Anderson, Austin Anderson, Alyssa Anderson, Cameron Grubb, Daniel Grubb, Bryson Grubb, and Avery. His great-grandchildren called him Big-One because he was a mountain of a man. Many thanks go to Judy for the countless times at the hospital, Bob for all the help in general, his Pastor: W.A. Seawell, his church family, and his adopted son Johnny Staley (thanks Johnny for all the goodies). Mr. Oldham was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church and attended church every service as long as his health permitted. Mr. Oldham will be placed in the church for visitation on today from 6:30-8:30 p.m. His homecoming service will be at the church on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. with the Pastor W.A. Seawell, Pastor David Hedrick of Promise Baptist Church, and his grandson Robert (Bob) Maness officiating. The church is located on Gate Road in Thomasville. Following the service interment will be at Floral Garden Memorial Park in High Point. *** Franklin D. Reid LEXINGTON — Franklin Dillard Reid, 72, of Leonard Road in Lexington, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at Lexington Memorial Hospital. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Salisbury National Cemetery with Dr. Robert Floyd officiating. Waldo “Zeke” Saintsing Mr. William Waldo “Zeke” Saintsing, 72, a resident of 7232 Midway School Road in Thomasville, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at Thomasville Medical Center. He was born on Jan. 6, 1936, in Davidson County to Royal Saintsing and Pauline Kennedy Saintsing. He was employed as parts manager for Greensboro and Bill Thompson Ford, as well as, Rays Cycle Shop. He was a rural postal carrier and a member of Zion United Church of Christ. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran having obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Saintsing Keenan, and two infant brothers, and loving father-in-law, Charlie Cothren. On Nov. 20, 1981, he married the love of his life, Joan Cothren, who survives of the home; also surviving in addition to his devoted wife, are his brothers, Charles Saintsing and his wife Alice and Donald Saintsing and his wife Louise, all of Thomasville; niece, Gretchen Saintsing; nephews, Douglas Saintsing and his wife Laura, David Saintsing and his wife Brooke, and Christopher Keenan; five great nieces and nephews; lifelong friend, Sherrill Kennedy and his wife Dovia; a special friend, who was considered a son, Wiley Jackson; and many, many good friends, relatives, and neighbors. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at 3 p.m. at Zion United Church of Christ with the Rev. James Simonds and the Rev. Mitchel Hayworth officiating. Interment with full military rites provided by Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Saintsing will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at the funeral home today and at other times at the home. Sadie Washington Mrs. Sadie McCullough Washington, 78, of 1070 Litwin Dr., died early Wed. morning, Feb. 13, 2008 at Alamance Regional Medical Center, Burlington. Mrs. Washington was born May 5, 1929, in Rock Hill, S.C., a daughter of Thomas J. and Ora Lee Thorne McCullough. For many years she resided in New York City, where she attended Trapp Hagen School of Design. Returning to Thomasville 20 years ago, she joined the membership at Mt. Sinia Faith, Hope and Love Ministries, Inc. She was employed as a caregiver in private homes. Her parents, three brothers, and one sister, all preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, Nathaniel Washington of the home; son, Andrew Padgett of the home; one brother, Joe McCullough and his wife, Annie of High Point; two sisters, Bettye M. Evans and husband, Edward of Greensboro, and Lois M. Parker and husband, Robert of Rock Hill, S.C.; two sisters-in-law, Rosetta McCullough of Chesapeake, Va., and D. Jean McCullough of Charlotte; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. today at the Chapel of Haizlip Funeral Home, 206 Fourth St., High Point with Pastor E.L. White officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park, High Point.
