THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Billie Carol Pope Wood, 73, a resident of 173 Pine Oak Dr., died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Thomasville Medical Center.
She was born on May 3, 1934, in Davidson County to Claude Pope and Ida Belle Leonard Pope. A charter member of Midway School Road Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Clyde Welborn Wood.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Midway School Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Wood will remain at the J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to service. The family will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Joyce Cody
DENTON — Mrs. Joyce Ann Cody Harrison, 64, a resident of Jackson Creek Road, died March 5, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Mrs. Harrison was born in Davidson County on Oct. 8, 1943, a daughter of Marshall Cody and Ethel Hill Cody. She was a member of Christian Cathedral and her hobby was spending time with her grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Betty Jean Leonard.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Charles Dickens and Carroll Upton officiating. Burial will follow at Grubb’s Grove Church of God Cemetery in Denton.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Randolph County, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, N.C. 27204.

John Jones
DENTON — Mr. John Roy Jones, 80, a resident of the Mountain Vista Health park, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at the nursing center. He was born November 13, 1927, in Davidson County, a son of the late Burch Jones and Minnie Embler Jones.
Surviving are a sister, Magalene McDowell of Tucson, Ariz.; three brothers, Coy Jones of Denton, Rayvon Jones and his wife Connie of Tucson, Ariz., and Paul Jones and his wife Ethel of Mocksville, N.C.; an aunt, nieces and nephews, an several cousins.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at J.C. Green and Sons Chapel with the Rev. James Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Thomasville.
The family will receive friends at the J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville one hour prior to the service.

Franklin “Frank” Wise
LEXINGTON — Franklin Webster “Frank” Wise, 80, of Easter Road, died Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds.
Mr. Wise was born Aug. 11, 1927, in Dare Country, N.C. to Willie F. Wise and Jean Midgget Wise. A retiree of R.J. Reynolds, Mr. Wise served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and was a member of V.F.W. Post 3074. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Randy Webster Wise and Ricky F. Wise.
There will be no funeral services and the family will receive friends at the home.

Charles T. Walton
TRINITY — Charles Thurman Walton, 85, of 5456 Fairview Church Road, died Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Hospice Home of High Point.
A native of Guilford County, Mr. Walton was born Jan. 22, 1923, son of the late Charles Hugh Walton and the Fannie Lane Walton. He lived most of his life in this area, was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and enjoyed golf and fishing. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in England. While in service, he met, and on Aug. 26, 1944, married his wife, the former Gwendolyn Jones of Essex, England. A member of the Royal Air Force, she died on March 25, 1999. For over 34 years, he worked for his special friends Sandra and Bill Murphy at Commercial Carving and, on occasion, looked after their dog “Bo”, with whom he became very attached.
Preceding him in death were brother, Jim Walton and Aster Walton; sisters, Aleze Upton and Winnie Stilwell; nieces, Sylvia Patrick and Doris Stanton; and nephews, Joseph Burge, Bobby Walton, Johnny Walton and Steve Stilwell.
Left to cherish his memory are four sisters, Inez Burge of Trinity, Arlese Hedrick of Thomasville, Elizabeth Crutchfield of Memphis, Tenn. and Helen Evangelist of Colfax, N.C.; nieces and nephews, George Upton, Janice Gaines, Jimmy Walton, Jackie Carlton, Andrea Hyde, Gail Mann, Carol Cable and Danny Stilwell.
Funeral service will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church with the Reverends David Smith, Bobby G. Swaim and Charles Walker officiating. Burial, with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard, will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
Pallbearers will be Chris Leonard, Derek Leonard, Shayne Stilwell, Dean Burge, Charlie Brown, Todd Moser, Larry Britt and Ryan Pugh. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Reddick and Stanley Reddick. Pallbearers should be at the church by 3:15 p.m.
The family would like to extend a warm and special “thank you” to the staffs of both Hospice of Randolph County and Hospice Home at High Point for their loving care and concern.

Jane M. Hanes
LEXINGTON — Gloria Jane Marashall Hanes, 60, of North N.C. Highway 150, died Friday, March 7, 2008, in Lexington Memorial Hospital after a serious illness of four months.
Mrs. Hanes was born Sep. 9, 1947, in Guilford County to Russell Hollis Marshall and Iris Murphy Marshall. She was a graduate of Ledford High School and Appalachian State University. She was a retired teacher at Pilot School in Thomasville and, later, a substitute teacher for a combined total of 32 years. A member of Friendship United Methodist Church, she was a member of United Methodist Women, Helping Hands Sunday school class and a member of the Kitchen Gang. She was also an assistant Blood Drive coordinator and active in Relay for Life in Thomasville. Her parents preceded her in death.
Surviving, are her loving husband, Charles Hanes; a son, Nicholas Hanes; sisters, Martha “Dusty” Marshall Parnell and husband, Dennis, of Thomasville, and Terri Marshall of Gastonia; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Ira R. Pilkenton
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Ira Richard Pilkenton, 79, of Blair Street in Thomasville and husband of Joyce Pilkenton, died Thursday, March 6, 2008, at High Point Regional Health System.
Mr. Pilkenton was born March 31, 1928, in Wilkes County, N.C. to Ira Murphy and Myrtle Griffin Pilkenton. He was retired from Clarendon Industries of High Point and was a member of White Oak Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Brown Pilkenton; two daughters, Rita Honda and husband, Brian, of Archdale, and Kathy Barker of Lexington; two sons, Archie and Jeff Pilkenton, both of Thomasville; Four sisters, Christine Wyatt and Odessa Bumgarner, both of Millers Creek, Rose Miller of Deep Gap, and Pearl Cunningham of Maryland.; Grandchildren, Kim Grice, Scotty Dennis, Chris Louya, Ryan Pilkenton, Black Pilkenton and Ayslee Pilkenton; great-grandchildren, Derek Hunt, Alex Grice, Tyler Dennis, Haley Dennis, Levi Dennis, Adam Louya, Dawson Louya, Cameron Pilkenton and Keagan Pilkenton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at White Oak Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Reavis officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 p.m.
