LINWOOD, N.C. — Boyce Coolidge Byerly, 82, of Lakeview Church Road in Linwood, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Rowan Regional Medical Center. Born March 16, 1925, in Davidson County, he was a former machine operator at Linwood Veneer Company.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Lakeview Baptist Church with the Rev. David Wooten and the Rev. Buster Pigg officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Lakeview Baptist Church, 341 Lakeview Church Road, Linwood, N.C. 27299.

Billie L. Davis
LEXINGTON — Billie L. Davis, 88, of Simerson Road, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at her home.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Churchland Baptist Church.

Daniel Ferguson
Daniel Carl Ferguson (Lambeth), 31, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, due to injuries sustained from an automobile accident.
Memorial service will be held at noon today at Community Baptist Church, 503 Turner St. in Thomasville

Pauline Lucas
Mrs. Pauline Elizabeth “Polly” Dennis Lucas, 77, a resident 1993 Liberty Drive passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at her home. Born in Davidson County on Feb. 28, 1930, to Clyde and Thelma Kellis Dennis, she had made this area her home for her entire life. She was a retired nurse at Thomasville Medical Center, and was a very active member of Fair Grove United Methodist Church where she was in the United Methodist Women. Her hobbies and interests included reading and serving in her church and she was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the Thomasville Senior Citizens organization. She was happiest however, when she was surrounded by her family, who she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Odell Lucas who died on June 4, 2001.
Surviving are her sons, Tracy Lucas of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Jim Lucas and wife Laurie and Roger Lucas and fiancée Crystal Absher all of Thomasville; sisters, Hilda Owen and husband Kenneth of High Point, and Rosemary Williamson and husband Barry of Thomasville; brother, Leon Dennis and wife Virginia of Denton; and one grandson, Dillon Lucas of Thomasville.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Fair Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. B. Joe Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be made to Fair Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund, 138 Fair Grove Church Road, Thomasville, N.C. 27360.

Ruth Newsome
LEXINGTON — Ruth Ilene Cooper Newsome, 78, of Hargrave Street in Lexington, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, in Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Born Feb. 26, 1929, in Davidson County, she was a retired employee of South Lexington Elementary School.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Derek Boggs, the Rev. J. Randy Hall and the Rev. Cynthia Arnold officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church Parlor and other times at the home of her son, Kelly Newsome of Hargrave Street. Memorials may be directed to Positive Wellness Allliance, P.O. Box 703, Lexington, N.C. 27293.

Elsie Owens
LEXINGTON — Elsie Lou Owens, 77, of Mountain View Church Road in Lexington, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at her residence. Born Aug. 27, 1930, in Davidson County, she was the daughter of Joe Henry Owens and Estella Laughlin Owens.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Mountain View Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence on Mountain View Church Road.

LEXINGTON — Jean S. Rodden, 80, of West Old Highway 64 of Lexington, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, in Alston Brook Nursing Home after two months of declining health.

DENTON — Exie Gordon Sechrest, 90, of Mountain Vista Nursing Home and formerly of Ernest Snider Road in Silver Valley, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Thomasville Medical Center. Born May 14, 1917, in Davidson County, she was a homemaker and retired from the hosiery industry.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville with the Rev. Allen Byerly and the Rev. Boyd Byerly officiating. Burial will follow in the Cid United Methodist Church Cemetery.

WINSTON-SALEM — Edith Walser Shoaf, 95, of Norman Shoaf Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at her home. Born July 25, 1912, in Davidson County, she was married to Norman Olin Shoaf who preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today in Beulah United Church of Christ with the Rev. Benn Fleming and the Rev. Dale Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
