Mr. Ross Howard Davis, 80, a resident of Kindley Road in Thomasville died Feb. 19, 2008, at Lexington Health Care. Mr. Davis was born April 14, 1927, in Wayne County, Tennessee a son of the late Andy and Delcie Gobbell Davis. Ross had lived most of his life in Davidson County and was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army and retired from the Thomas Company. He enjoyed playing music and teaching music to children. Although he was a NASCAR fan, he loved watching his son Brandon Davis race at Caraway Speedway. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers; Rex, Reece and Ray Davis. Ross was married to Nancy Wilson who survives of the home. Also surviving is his son Brandon Howard Davis and his wife Michelle of Thomasville; his daughters: Teresa Payne and her husband Glenn of Thomasville and Wanda McKee and her husband Ernie of Reidsville, N.C.; five grandchildren, Melissa “Missy” Vernon and husband Ron, Sandra ‘Sissy” Wilson of Reidsville, Peyton Davis, Bryce Payne, Corbin Payne all of Thomasville; four great-grandchildren, Timmy Wilson, Breanna Wilson, Adam Bartlett, Madison Rigney all of Reidsville; and one sister; Betty Ray of Lawrenceburg, Tenn. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Hughes Grove Baptist Church in Thomasville with the Rev. John Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Betty Hine LEXINGTON — Betty Ann Gordon Hine, 77, of Bud Sink Road in Lexington, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center. Amelia Oliver Junious Amelia Ruth Oliver Junious, 77, of 110 Stone St. in Thomasville, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, in High Point Regional Hospital. Celestine Worthy Kirby HIGH POINT — Mrs. Celestine Worthy Kirby, 56, of 517 Pendleton St., died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston Salem. Mrs. Kirby, the daughter of Eula Worthy and the late Arthur Farabee, was born Aug. 13, 1951, in Thomasville. She attended the city’s public schools, and following graduation from Thomasville Senior High in 1969, enrolled at Davidson County Community College. While a young adult, she moved her residency to High Point, where she was formerly employed as a housing manager with the High Point Housing Authority. Her church membership was at Brown New Calvary Baptist, where she was the musician. She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Kirby. Survivors include one son, Raynoda “Oscar” Kirby of the home; two daughters, Ra’Donna “Ms. Pee” Kirby of High Point, and Tradese Dalton of Greensboro; three grandchildren; mother, Eula Worthy of the home; one brother, Arthur Farabee of Springdale, Md.; one sister, Angela Hogan of Thomasville; stepmother, Johnnie Mae Farabee of Thomasville; sister-in-law, Debra (Lee) Ingram of High Point; special friends, Mary Flowers, Deborah Scott of High Point, and Jerone Smith of Thomasville; special cousin, Mary Harper of San Antonio, Texas; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Brown New Calvary Baptist Church, 200 Doak St., Thomasville, with the Rev. Roy Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park, Greensboro. Family visitation will be at the church Friday, 1:30 to 2 p.m., and other times at the residence. Love Greer Amelia Pressley Love, 36, of 704 Burgin St. in Thomasville, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, in High Point Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Guilford County to Benjamin and Geraldine Spann Pressley, she was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. She was a 1990 graduate of Thomasville High School and she was employed by McDonald’s of Thomasville for 18 years. Surviving are her husband Keith Love of Thomasville, N.C.; her children Marcus Love, Jalesa Love and Cinamin Love all of the home; her parents Benjamin and Geraldine Pressley of Thomasville; one brother Benjamin D. Pressley of Thomasville; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the Church of Tomorrow, 906 Oaklawn Drive, Thomasville. Thomas Funeral Service is serving the family. *** Mary Powell MILL SPRINGS, N.C. — Mrs. Mary Irene Cook Powell, 81, a resident of 1710 Powell Road, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 19, 2008, in Holly Springs Rest Home in Rutherfordton, N.C. She was born Oct. 3, 1926, in Davidson County, a daughter of the late Otis Cook and Hazel Irene Loflin Cook. She was a retired employee of the former Brokers, Inc. of Thomasville. She was a member of Alleghany United Methodist Church. On March 13, 1983, she was married to the Rev. John James (J.J.) Powell, who survives of the home. Also surviving are a son, John Frank Pickelsimer and his wife Cathy of Thomasville; a step-daughter, Dr. Martha Jane Powell Blackwell and her husband Will of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a step-son, the Rev. Dr. James Lee Powell and his wife Judy of Marietta, Ga.; one step-granddaughter; and two step-great-grandsons. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at 1 p.m. in Alleghany United Methodist Church near Denton, N.C., with the Rev. Steve McLain and the Rev. Dr. James Lee Powell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Powell will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville, N.C. until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Virginia Shipwash HIGH POINT — Virginia Shipwash, 88, a former resident of High Point, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at Evergreens Nursing Home in Jamestown. Born Nov. 23, 1919, in Guilford County, she was last employed with Snider Paper of High Point. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Church of God of the Prophecy with Pastor Benjamin Duncan and Pastor Robey Ayers officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Shipwash will remain at the J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
