LEXINGTON — Jesse Mock Callahan, 70, a resident of Crews Lake Road, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008, in Alston Brook.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Gene Davis, The Rev. Dr. Gary Gibson and the Rev. Chip Ray officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the home of daughter, Tina Pressley, 376 Hedrick Heritage Drive, Lexington.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Grace Missionary Baptist Church, 335 Carl Pressley Road, Lexington, N.C. 27295.
Arrangements are under the direction of Piedmont Funeral Home.

Oliver “O.D.” Dennis
LEXINGTON — Mr. Oliver Dockery “O.D.” Dennis III, 50, a resident of 220 Palomino Trail, died Sunday, June 15, 2008, at his residence.
He was born on July 28, 1957, in Guilford County to Oliver Dockery Dennis Jr. and Betty Hilliard Dennis. He was a former employee of Hilliard Fabricators.
Memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with the Rev. David Hedrick officiating.

Bessie Farabee
THOMASVILLE — Ms. Bessie Farabee, 99, of 602 Pontiac Dr., died Sunday, June 15, 2008, at Thomasville Medical Center.
A lifelong resident of Thomasville, Ms. Farabee was born Oct. 28, 1908, a daughter of Walter and Mary Holmes Farabee. As long as her health permitted, she was an active member at Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she served on the Missionary Board and was a member of the Floral Club. In earlier years, she was employed at a day-care facility and cared for children.
She was preceded in death by a son, James “Jimmy” Farabee; parents; and six brothers and sisters, Julius, Clarence, John, Paul, Essie and Emma.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mary Alice Watkins; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one brother, Harvey Lee Farabee and wife, Ruth; three sisters, Eva Farabee, Clara Mae Farabee, and Margie F. Miller, all of Thomasville; a special friend whom she considered a son, Dwayne Snyder of Denton; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 204 Turner St., where the Rev. Michael McNair is pastor. Rev. Tony Barr will officiate. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park.
Public viewing will betoday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Haizlip Funeral Home, 206 Fourth St., High Point.
Family visitation will be at the church Friday from 1:30 to 2 p.m. and other times at the residence.

Joseph Hicks
WHITEVILLE, N.C. — Mr. Joseph Scott Hicks, 38, a resident of Kings Road in Whiteville, N.C., died Friday morning, June 13, 2008, at his residence.
He was born in Guilford County, N.C., on May 19, 1970, a son of the late Edward Hicks and Mary Ellen Kindley Ginn.
Surviving are a brother, James Ginn and his wife, Deana, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a niece, Jade Ginn; aunts, Uavah York of Trinity, Joann Loflin of Thomasville and Judy Kindley of Denton; uncles, Hubert Kindley of Lexington, Ernest Kindley of Asheboro and Michael Kindley of Trinity.
Graveside service will be held today at 10 a.m. at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Old Highway 64, Randolph County, Trinity, with the Rev. Karen Smith officiating.
No formal visitation will be held.
Mr. Hicks will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until the service hour.

William T. Melton
THOMASVILLE — Mr. William Terry Melton, 50, of 804 Bowerhood Drive, died Monday, June 16, 2008, in Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Funeral service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in Williams Memorial CME Church in High Point. Burial will be held on Monday at noon in Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, N.C.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the funeral service in Williams CME church and other times at the home.
S.E. Thomas Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Brenda Suggs
ARCHDALE — Brenda Gail Wilkins Suggs, 61, of Archdale, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the Hospice Home of High Point.She was battling illness since being diagnosed in October of 2007.
Gail was born in Burlington on Aug. 1, 1946, to James and Helen Wilkins. She arrived as the youngest of nine children into a very loving family. Gail married James Lloyd Suggs of High Point and had five children, Barbara Lamb of Greensboro, Keith Lamb of Bendigo Australia, Tammy Cummings of Archdale, Rachel Thomas of Archdale and Bucky Suggs of Archdale. She was also blessed with 10 grandchildren Nikki, Matthew, Jennifer, Jessica, Jeff, Katie, Beau, Drew, Bobbi and Geordi in addition to three great grandchildren Landon, Reece and Thomas. She is survived by two sisters Betty Draughn and Francis Bryson, and two brothers Bill and Jerry Wilkins. Gail was also loved by many nieces and nephews. Gail was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of High Point.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church of High Point.
The family would like to welcome all who loved her to celebrate the life of this great woman as she would have liked. Gail’s family and friends will be receiving visitors at her home in Archdale between 7 and 9 p.m. today.
The family also requests instead of flowers, please make a donation in her honor to Hospice Home of High Point, 1801 Westchester Dr. High Point, N.C. 27262.

Evelyn Summey
ARCHDALE — Mrs. Evelyn Brown Summey, 78, died Monday, June 16, 2008, at Hospice Home at High Point.
She was born on May 18, 1930, in High Point, a daughter of the late Charlie Brown and Mittie Koontz Brown. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and dearly lover her Sunday school class.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with the Rev. J.C. Alley officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Piedmont and the staff from Home Health for all the special care they gave mother.

Robert Swaney
THOMASVILLE — Robert Harrison Swaney, 68, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2008, at Thomasville Medical Center.
He was born on Feb. 24, 1940 in Randolph County to Cletus and Alene Williams Swaney. He is preceded in death by his father Cletus Swaney; his daughter, Sherry Swaney Burnette; and granddaughter, Julia Michelle Burnett.
Robert loved flying, motorcycle riding, antique cars, and tractor pulls and was a member of High Rock Baptist Church.
He was survived by his wife Nancy Swaney; mother, Alene Swaney; son, Phillip Swaney and wife, Maria, of Thomasville; sister, Cleta Mae Cranford and husband, Delbert, of Asheboro; brother, Richard Swaney and wife, Lind,a of Thomasville; and grandchildren, Matthew Swaney, Anna Swaney, Jacob Swaney, Jeremy Swaney and Christopher Burnett.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Family Funeral Care Chapel officiated by the Reverend Ray Swaney, followed by interment in Holly Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Family Funeral Care in Thomasville.

Varis Workman
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Varis Lee Workman, 82, a resident of Marvin Road, died on Monday, June 16, 2008.
He was born on Feb. 18, 1926, a son to Walter J. Workman and Pearl Clodfelter Workman. He retired in 1981 from Thomasville Furniture Industries after 25 years of service. He was also a U.S. Army veteran that served during World War II in Saipan.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at New Heights Baptist Church in Trinity with the Rev. Roger Porter and the Rev. John Wheeles officiating. Burial will follow in Hughes Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home.
