LEXINGTON — Cyril Elaine Walker Abernathy, 95, a resident of Lexington Health Care, formerly of West 6th Avenue, Lexington, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, in Lexington Health Care. A private service will be held at a later date under the direction of Piedmont Funeral Home. Friends may call at the Funeral Home until noon today. Online condolences may be made at www.piedmontfuneralhome.com. Hazel Ellis HIGH POINT — Mrs. Hazel Gunter Ellis, 85, resident of High Point, died Dec. 19, 2007, at High Point Regional Hospital. Mrs. Ellis was born Oct. 20, 1922, in Guilford County, a daughter to the late Dewey and Ida Mae Dean Gunter. A resident of this area all her life, she was retired from Slane Hosiery Mill and a member of Oak View Baptist Church. She was married to Clayton Aubrey Ellis who preceded her in death in 1982. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Dewey Gunter. Surviving are four daughters, Penda Weaver of Thomasville, Faye Arnette of Thomasville, Romona Ingram of Baden Lake and Kaye Culler of High Point; a son, Terry Ellis of Thomasville; eleven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with the Rev. John Wheeles officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Guilford County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 8 Jamestown, N.C. 27282. Online condolences may be made through www.cumbyfuneral.com. *** Beulah Pierce DENTON — Beulah Pierce, 94, of Woods Dairy Road in Denton, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at the residence of her son. Born June 7, 1914, in Davidson County, she was a retired employee of Thornton Knitting Company. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at Walter’s Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeremy Simpson and the Rev. Jody Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence of Eugene Pierce, 238 Lloyd St., Asheboro, N.C.
