LEXINGTON — To inform students, parents and teachers about preparing for college success, Dr. Bill Heron, senior educational manager for the College Board Southern Regional Office, will be coming to Davidson County Schools (DCS) on March 11 and 12.
Dr. Sandi Lee, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, briefed the DCS Board of Education about Heron’s visit Monday night.
“The session is entitled ‘achieving college success’ and not just getting into college,” she said. “It has some really good statistics and information about making students as competitive as possible for college.”
Aside from meeting with teachers and students, Heron will meet with the DCS’ student services director, high school director and testing director on March 11. The next day, Heron will discuss with school personnel how to use PSAT data to improve instruction.
Heron came to DCS about seven years ago and did a variety of activities with students, teachers and parents. As the opportunity to meet with Heron is rare, DCS will be videotaping the sessions.
“It is not very often that we get someone like the senior educational manager for all of the southern educational states,” Lee said.
There will be two sessions scheduled with students, one at Central Davidson High and another at South Davidson High. An evening session will also be held from 7-8:30 p.m. Some of the slots are open, and Lee is asking parents who are interested to call her at 249-8182.
