Stanford Ray, a 50-year-old former Thomas employee charged with having sexual contact with a student, is wanted by the Thomasville Police Department. As of Wednesday at 4 p.m., Lt. Raymond Widener, said police are still on the search for the former attendance counselor.
Thomasville police called a press conference on Tuesday to discuss Ray’s charge and unveiled a photo that was issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. At the press conference, Sgt. Les Rickard called for the community’s help in finding Ray. The sergeant said other charges may be pending after further investigation.
The Browning Drive resident has been charged with sexual activity with a student by school personnel other than a teacher, school administrator or student teacher, which is a class G felony. The alleged victim, who is now 19, was a 17-year-old Thomasville High School student at the time of the alleged incident. Rickard said she gave birth to a baby July 28, 2007 and it is speculated Ray might be the father. The Department of Social Services brought the case to Thomasville police.
Ray has a prior criminal record in the 1980s, including assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury.
School officials gave him a second chance, employing him in August 2001.
Anyone with information leading to the arrest of Ray is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers of Thomasville at 476-TIPS.
